10 years ago, I was reading a fiction book- not about dance – but in the middle of the book, there was a scene where the characters wandered into a Tango dance. And then they wandered out. It was very vivid and it stuck in my mind. Two weeks later, I went on a date with a man I met from a dating app. I never saw him again, but on that date, he shared with me that he was taking private Tango dance lessons. I was startled because I’ve never thought about Tango in my life, but the scene from the book had kept replaying in my head. A couple of weeks later, I was watching TV and a random scene with a couple dancing Tango was suddenly before me.
I remember saying to myself, “Is this a synchronicity rising before me? I think I need to go explore Tango?” Perhaps I was not even using the term right but it was so strange to have these three unrelated things. I decided to take a Tango class after this third incident and it changed my life. I also met my husband in Tango. Perhaps I should take your seminar!
What a beautiful example of the mysterious ways synchronicity unfolds in life.
We don't often understand the greater meaning and purpose behind these kinds of synchronicities until much later in life. Not everyone of them speaks to a major change or evolution, but some really do!!
Thank you for sharing, Mikelann! And I'd love to have you join us for the seminar :)
Yes!! In the midst of an intense period synchronicities right now. I’ve been going through what feels like an individuation rung - asking me to learn how to put my needs first before others (pleasing others seems to be my default).
That mode of being has become very hard with the intense demands of grad school. My husband let me borrow his small katana sword for strength while navigating a period of high stress and shadow material. The next week, I pulled an Oracle card with my therapist to help integrate this period and I pulled “The Sword” (from the archetypes deck). The tiny katana looks identical to the sword in the card (there’s a pic in my profile).
Today I decided to do a spread to gain more insight on how to wield my sword, and the Ace of Swords flew out as I was shuffling the cards.
It seems like The Sword is a strong archetype in my life right now. I’d love any insight!
This is such a prime example of synchronicity playing out in life, especially what happens when we introduce divinatory modalities to help funnel the experience.
I imagine these are constellating since these individuation demands are heightening. We'll touch on this in the workshop, but a lot of times synchronicity breaks through to really get our attention, when emotional intensity and energy are heightened, etc.
This is so helpful, thank you!!! So much of what the archetypal sword represents feels true to the individuation themes in my life. I’ll continue to sit with these as well and observe how they continue to play out.
I haven’t watched it yet but I want to! Even more reason to do so 🗡️
You’re welcome!! Another thing to consider: is there a mythic story/fairytale around a sword you feel drawn to explore currently? That could help give you some further insight of how to work with and integrate its themes!
I feel like I am experiencing synchronicity right now! ✨
Starting with my comments in your last office hours thread where we talked about the strong thematic tie between The Devil and the 8 of Swords, and what perceived (self) limitations are ready to be broken down and dissolved by engaging this dynamic. I learned a lot from looking more closely into the personal meaning held in The Devil, the 8 of wands, and the other cards I drew. It was powerful and illuminating (Luciferian!) for me.
Then last night I felt the urge to pull one card, for a little nugget of insight as I like to call it. I drew the 8 of Swords, again! It felt like Bam! -my psyche and the tarot have a strong message for me that I am being called to continue reflecting upon.
And today, I went to listen to the latest episode of the This Jungian Life Podcast and it was called "Dark forces in the Psyche: Our Self-Destructive Impulses. How thematically appropriate is that!
This all seems very synchronous and I feel like I'm being drawn in to something important from my unconscious that is asking to be brought into the light. I am sure this will lead to some inner growth for me so it is exciting, challenging, but exciting!
This makes a lot of sense! We're going to cover this in the workshop, but oftentimes, synchronicity will intensify when particular individuation dynamics are activated. Or, when an archetype gets noticeably constellated in life (the Devil/8 of Swords/liberation and limitation in this case). It will usually flow through in many forms (pulling the tarot card, the podcast, etc). I'd recommend paying attention to your dreams at this time too :)
It usually begins to calm down once we consciously engage and begin development. Or, new synchronicity may appear to further the process along.
the most precise experience of synchronicity i have had was a few years ago, as a student. i was telling a couple of friends that i could not remember the end to the phrase "one swallow does not...". neither could they. the following day, i got a message from one of the friends i had spoken to, with a photo of their maths work marked by their lecturer. it had ticks and crosses, no verbal feedback as usual, apart from one question, where my friend had applied a standard formula which was not actually the correct method in this case due to a slight variation in the problem. the lecturer had written next to it "one swallow does not a summer make"
Oh, fascinating!!! Did the phrase seem relevant to anything else in life at the time? Did something shift or become clearer once you heard the full phrase??
I had a dream where I went to use the toilet at my therapists office before a session, but when I went to enter, she came out of it, and it was super awkward…there was a weird smell, and she was embarrassed or self-conscious of it or something…she straightened her clothes and went upstairs to her office. I remember thinking - great…. It’s going to be awkward when I have to go up there and have the session, I’ll probably have to find a different place to pee before a session.
A few weeks later the exact thing happened almost to a T. I went to use the toilet, but when I went for the door I heard the toilet flush, so I turned and walked away…I heard footsteps behind me, and I got the pins and needles on my neck…I knew I had to turn around… I spun around to face her…she looks at me concerned like I’m not supposed to be walking around the halls of the building.
“I was just looking for a toilet” I explained.
She adjusts her clothes and says something like - I’ll be down shortly - and walks upstairs to her office.
I knew instantly I was replaying the dream.
It was my last session with her.
I had also had a dream immediately after that first dream where I found a new therapist, and while the new one I eventually engaged didn’t look identical to the one in my dream, I did meet that person (from the dream) in a random encounter on the street shortly afterwards, but she was a photographer and not a therapist.
Seemed like a rehearsal, although I can’t explain it.
Wow, Laurie!! These types of dreams are such a striking example of synchronicity.
Was it decided beforehand that you were ending sessions with this therapist?
Toilet dreams, which are so common, often point towards shadow...sometimes the processing of it, the ways it builds up, etc. The feeling of embarrassment in the dream makes me wonder if there is some tension around particular shadow content - facing it, owning it, what it means for it be "seen".
Your dreams seem particularly vibrant and clear with their messages. Has that always been true?
Yes it was particularly striking. So I had the two dreams in the same night. The first with the toilet scenario, and then after I had woken up and then gone back to sleep the one about meeting a new therapist. The 2 dreams made me think about the relationship I had with the therapist, and how it felt more like going there to hang out instead of any real movement. I realised the surface level behavioural cbt wasn’t cutting it for me, and began thinking of maybe changing practitioners. Whether it was outside of her scope or perhaps it was me not being able to engage correctly I don’t know. Maybe I learned all I could from there. The dream being replayed in front of me was a clear sign for me to move on, but it wasn’t really decided before I had the dream.
I have had quite a few moments like this all through my life, from childhood to present - though I can probably only think of a handful right now - its not always reliable, as in….I don’t know which dreams are warnings or significant and which are just noise….I don’t really know until I’m in it again, and that sudden familiarity hits when I could finish their sentence like it’s a movie scene I’ve already watched, sometimes weeks prior or even years before.
I’ve also had some brilliant ones that have been very clear with the message, and using that unreal dream world language but I won’t go into that here.
I have tried to take dreams more seriously over the years and have kind of figured that when I do have these moments that it’s confirmation of being on the right path.
I had a similar dream. I was in Jungian analysis and had a dream of watching a group of somatic practitioners working and healing through the body. It was the impetus to begin somatic therapy, which I had never considered at the time. And it made a huge difference! I love when dreams offer such profound shifts in perspective :)
It is hard to know whether dreams are significant till events transpire. But I have found that consistently working with them helps you attune to those more striking dreams.
I've experienced something that i'm not sure if it could be considered sinchronicity. Once I dreamed about baphomet and I asked him questions...I don't remember anything, the only thing I remember was that he answered to one of the questions: apocalipsis and months later a friend of mine told me he wanted to publish a book about apocalipsis....since then i've started reading about dreams and archetypes ...why baphomet?? Interesting....
One thing to keep in mind is: do the events seem meaningfully linked? Is there a sense of importance in the link?
The inner and outer events don't always happen at the same time or very close together. So when there's a large stretch of time (weeks, months, etc) you want to consider how linked they are through shared meaning.
In this case, Baphomet is acting as a mediator to bring up themes of the apocalypse: revelation, catastrophe, divine encounters, radical change, etc. Do any of those seem relevant to your life?
I'd also recommend doing some reading or research about Baphotmet to see if anything grabs your attention!

So true. It wasn’t until a year later that I realized how truly significant it all was.
Amazing!

Have you watched the class Meeting the Archetypes Within (https://www.theartemisian.com/p/meeting-the-archetypes-within)? I talk about the archetype of the sword in that class! You might find it useful to revisit.
Here are points I touch on in the class around the sword:
The archetypal image of the Sword represents decisive force, a sharp and clarifying power that cuts through illusion and compels truth into action.
The Sword symbolizes discernment, confrontation, the drawing of boundaries, cutting away illusions, and the intensity of reality.
-It invites us to face responsibility, embrace personal authority, and cultivate a profound sense of sovereignty.
-It embodies power, intellect and rationality, and the double-edged nature of decisive action.
-As an agent of separation, it clarifies and creates conflict.

Yes, it is fascinating! Looking forward to the synchronicity workshop!
Great! If you have any questions on synchronicity, let me know :)
